The Arts for All family has experienced the loss of one
of its most talented visual artists, James Seymour Lunsford, who died
at his residence in December. At the time of his death, the Arts for All
Gallery was hosting its first millennium exhibition, "Things to
Come," in which several of Seymour's pieces were featured along
with those of professional artists Marquetta Bell-Johnson, Fred Budin
and Harry Teague.
Seymour was a prolific painter known to produce his artwork
as quickly as it sold. He painted with acrylics, oils, enamel, tempera
and even tar, charging $800 to $2,500 a canvas. He considered himself
an expressionist and used vivid images and color in his artwork.
Seymour, an Atlanta native, earned a journalism degree at
Georgia State University and was a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta.
He began his career as a freelance photographer and his award-winning
photographs are a part of the permanent collection of the Atlanta Historical
Society. Arts for All began working with Seymour in the mid 1990s and
had the privilege of serving as a mentor to him as he grew in his artistic
talents.
From May 8 - June 17, the Arts for All Gallery will host
a Delta Air Lines sponsored memorial exhibition in celebration of Seymour's
life and contributions as an artist. A reception will take place Thursday,
May 11, from 5-7 PM. We invite everyone to join us in remembering Seymour.
