Celebrating its 30th anniversary of providing access to the arts for people with disabilities and those of low income, VSA arts of Georgia proudly presents NEW WORKS: Selected Works by Emerging Artist with Disabilities, opening May 3, 2005 in Arts for All Gallery.  This group exhibition of work by emerging and developing artists with disabilities new to Arts for All Gallery continues on view through June 24, 2005.

The eleven participating artists come from around the state of Georgia and beyond, including:

  • Chris Hartwick, Greenville, SC
  • Doris Hester, Macon
  • Pat Hewatt, Decatur
  • Sheri Jobe, Fairburn
  • Masha Malikina, Atlanta
  • Jerry Morrison, Dalton
  • Karen Sanders, Chamblee
  • Clarence Walker, Cartersville
  • Bob Wardrep, Atlanta
Each artist has a distinctive artistic style and vision, and they work in a variety of two-dimensional mediums including photography, mixed media, acrylics, pen and ink, watercolors and computer?generated art. Curator Linda Seay notes she specifically sought out ?emerging artists with disabilities, with interesting personal stories, who are looking for opportunities to show their work. I chose an eclectic group of artwork that will be of interest to a wide range of patrons.? VSA arts of Georgia?s Arts for All Gallery will host a Meet the Artists opening reception on Thursday, May 5, from 5 ? 8 p.m. An additional public reception will take place on June 2, 2005, from 5 - 8 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public, as part of Turner First Thursday, Atlanta?s monthly downtown arts walk. Complimentary refreshments will be provided during both receptions, as well as live Audio Description for patrons with visual impairments and American Sign Language interpretation for patrons who are Deaf. Arts for All Gallery is a program of VSA arts of Georgia, and gallery is open to the public Monday ? Friday, from 9 a.m. ? 5 p.m. Admission is always free, and there is an ADA-accessible entrance; Braille and large print exhibition pamphlets and audio description materials are also provided.
