Atlanta, GA ~ VSA arts of Georgia continues its annual tradition of offering affordable fine arts and handcrafted gift items for holiday shoppers. Arts for All Gallery, a program of VSA arts of Georgia, proudly presents HOLIDAY ART SALE 2008, opening November 4th, and continuing through December 23rd, 2008. In keeping with VSA arts of Georgia’s vision of a world in which the arts are accessible to all, this year’s event includes work by dozens of area artists, with and without disabilities. Proceeds from the sale benefit the participating artists and VSA arts of Georgia, a nonprofit organization with a thirty-year history of providing access to arts and cultural events and programs to more than 100,000 Georgians with disabilities and low incomes each year.
Participating artists include veterans of the event as well as new talent, from book- and box-makers to painters, origami and jewelry artisans, textile and stained glass artists from across the state of Georgia and beyond. Arts for All Gallery is located in the historic Healey Building at 57 Forsyth Street, NW, in Downtown Atlanta. The public is invited to “shop for a cause” during regular business hours Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The gallery will also host two Meet the Artist receptions, on Thursday, November 6th and Thursday, December 4th, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm both evenings. Complimentary light refreshments will be provided by and a selection of participating artists will be on hand to offer patrons demonstrations of their artistry and craft. The receptions are part of Turner First Thursdays, and both evening events are free and open to the public. The gallery is open to the public Monday – Friday, from 10 AM – 4 PM; there is an ADA-accessible entrance, and admission is always free.
Arts for All Gallery is a program of VSA arts of Georgia, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to the arts for people with disabilities and those of low income. The deadline for submitting an Entry to the Holiday Art Sale was September 5, 2008; the Call for Entry is now closed, and no further entries will be accepted this year. Artists interested in applying for future HAS events may review the information provided below in order to become familiar with the event. The Call VSA arts of GA seeks artists with and without disabilities to participate in our 2008 Holiday Art Sale. The sale is an opportunity to sell your work in a prime retail location in Downtown Atlanta at the height of the shopping year. The sale is one of two annual fundraising events for VSA arts of Georgia, whose mission is to provide access to the arts for Georgians with disabilities and with low income. 2008 Priorities In keeping with our mission, and our gallery patron base of Downtown office workers, residents and tourists, we seek fine arts and handcrafted items that:
What Sells We sell only original works. Sales transactions average less than $30.00 per patron. Items that do well for us share one or more of the following qualities: they have the appearance of being unique or one of a kind (rather than being reproducible in large quantities); they can be easily carried out of the gallery after purchase; they come ready for gift wrapping, with their own understated, but attractive packaging (small boxes for jewelry and ornaments, frames for photos); they provide excellent value. The Commission Structure 50% of sales goes to you, the artist; 50% of sales goes to VSA arts of GA. If you work as a volunteer in the gallery for at least 12 hours (appropriately documented) during the course of the Holiday Art Sale (during weekdays, or during evenings and weekends when we open the gallery for special events), you may earn 60% of sales. Holiday Art Sale 2008 Frequently Asked Questions Keep these details for your records & relevant dates 1. When will I be notified of the status of my application? All two dimensional artwork must be completely prepared for hanging, including framing where appropriate, with screw eyes and wire attached. Sculptural work must be able to stand on its own with or without a base; cover cases should accompany the work. Fiber art must be equipped for hanging. Artwork not properly prepared for hanging and presentation will not be displayed.
3. When may I deliver my work to Arts for All Gallery? You are responsible for delivering your artwork to Arts for All Gallery, 57 Forsyth St NW, Atlanta, GA, 30303, and for insuring the work while it is in transit. This year, you may deliver your artwork on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24, 2008 between 10 AM and 4 PM. You are responsible for submitting a complete inventory of the work you deliver on the day you deliver it. If you are selected, we will provide you with an inventory form. On the day you deliver your artwork, plan to spend at least 30 minutes with our staff to process paperwork.
4. Does VSA arts of Georgia pay insurance for work in the gallery? Yes, we insure the artwork for the period of time that is physically inside our gallery. You are responsible for it at all other times, including while it is in transit. See Questions 3 and 7 regarding the exact period of time that we can accept responsibility for the safekeeping of your art. Our insurance does not cover your artwork beyond those dates.
5. What is the earnings structure for the sale and when may I expect payment for work sold? The sale price that you list on the entry form must include a 50% sales commission for VSA arts of GA. In the event of a sale, you will be paid the sale price of your artwork, minus the 50% commission. (For example, if you list a sale price of $100.00, you receive $50.00 and VSA arts of GA receives $50.00. The buyer pays an additional 8% sales tax.) If you work in the gallery at least 12 hours during the course of the Holiday Art Sale, you earn 60% of sales. We will pay you by check ; checks will be issued by February 1, 2009.
6. What am I agreeing to by answering this call? By submitting this entry form, you agree with all terms and conditions set forth by VSA arts of GA. You also grant us permission to photograph and publish your artwork, biography, and description of artwork for promotional purposes in broadcast, print and electronic media, including the Internet. 7. When may I pick up unsold artwork from your gallery? You must pick up any of your artwork that does not sell. You must pick up your artwork during the first full week of January 2009, between 10 PM and 4 PM Monday – Friday. We have no storage facilities for your artwork and VSA arts of Georgia will not be responsible for insuring it after Friday, January 9, 2009. Any artwork left on our premises after January 9, 2009 becomes the property of VSA arts of Georgia.
