Artists and Teachers, Access and Inclusion

a Summer Training Institute

Monday, June 27 - Thursday, June 30, 2005

Emerging, developing and established teaching artists, as well as other arts educators, classroom teachers, and arts education administrators gathered for an intense three days of learning and sharing.


WORKSHOPS offered at the inaugural Summer Institue 2005:
  • WORKSHOP #1: Articulating Accomplishments: The Basics of Assessment & Evaluation
  • presented by Russell Granet / Center for Arts Education, New York City
  • WORKSHOP #2: Whose Classroom is it Anyway? Models for Teachers/Artists presented by Alice Lovelace, M.A., Author/Poet/Arts Specialist
  • WORKSHOP #3: Arts Experiences for All: Access & Inclusion
  • presented by Jaehn Clare, M.A. Director of Artistic Development/VSA arts of GA
  • WORKSHOP #4: Literacy Based Arts Integration: A Sample Lesson
  • presented by Russell Granet/Center for Arts Education, New York City & Amber Nash, Atlanta-based Theatre & Teaching Artist
  • WORKSHOP #5: Making it Work: Adaptive Tools & Techniques
  • facilitated by Jaehn Clare - presenters include: Linda Seay, Visual Artist; Douglas Scott, Founding & Artistic Director/Choreographer, Full Radius Dance, Inc.; Raihana Muhammed, Arts Specialist/Shepherd Spinal Center
  • WORKSHOP #6: The Key to Sustainability: Including Parents in Ars Education

  • WORKSHOP #7: Classroom Management
  • presented by John Wilbur, Director of Experiential Services/Inner Harbour Hospital & Tom Harris, Therapeutic Drumming Instructor/Inner Harbour Hospital

Each day also included an ART MOMENT - an opportunity for participants to make art together, and to reflect on the institute process and relate it to their individual work.
