VSA arts of Georgia Ongoing EventsVSA arts of Georgia receives donated tickets to the following ongoing events to offer to our agencies.
ONLY THE CONTACT PERSON FOR EACH AGENCY MAY MAKE TICKET REQUESTS.
Reservations for these events will be accepted with a minimum of two weeks notice and a maximum of 90 days notice (except in the spring for scheduling summer events).
Only fully and properly completed ticket requests will be processed. Incomplete or incorrect forms will be returned to the designated Contact Person. Please read the ticket program guidelines thoroughly for additional information and requirements for Ongoing Events reservations and attendance.
All tickets are to be picked up at the box office NO LATER THAN 15 minutes before your reservation time, according to the instructions specified to the contact person.

If you are not able to attend a scheduled event, it MUST be canceled with VSA arts of Georgia AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE.

APEX (short for African American Panoramic Experience) exhibits depict the cultural heritage of African-Americans and their contributions and achievements in American history. Featuring continuous videos "Sweet Auburn: Street of Pride", narrated by Cecily Tyson and Julian Bond, and "The Journey", about African history and narrated by Ossie Davis; a pictorial exhibit of the life and work of educator Benjamin Mays; the San Kosa collection of African Art; a re-creation of the Yates and Milton Drugstore; and the Trolley Theater.

The AMA has assembled an impressive, growing permanent collection comprised of African, American and European art. The Museum houses one of the largest collections of sub-Saharan African art in the southeast, including masks, sculpture, pottery, baskets, textiles, jewelry and gold weights. The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank and her family, following them from freedom in 1920's Germany, to exile in the Netherlands, to hiding in a secret annex above her father's business in Amsterdam, and finally, to death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The Exhibit includes a 28-minute film on "The Short Life of Anne Frank", a virtual tour of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, a student artwork exhibit and an exhibit on the life of a soldier from an all black unit who witnessed the liberation of a concentration camp.

Step back in time - see the 1840's Archibald Smith Plantation Home in Historic Roswell with furnishings collected by the family from 1840 - 1940. There are 12 outbuildings including barn, corncrib, kitchen, carriage house and well. The site represents three generations of the Smith family who lived on the property.

Barrington King, co-founder of Roswell, built Barrington Hall on the highest point in Roswell. Built in the Greek Revival style and listed on the National Register of Historic Homes, it was completed in 1842 and has been restored as close to its original form as possible. Craftsmen skilled in the lost art of plastering restored the horsehair plaster walls throughout the house, cracked and severely damaged by fire and water. The original heart pine floors and walnut doors have been refinished and many of the faux painted doors have also been restored.

The Telephone museum uses interesting and nostalgic exhibits, photographs, tapes and slides to commemorate the first century of telecommunications in the United States. Between 1900 and 1910 the number of rural telephones increased over 500%. Founded in 1937 and housed in Ware's Folly, the Gertrude Herbert serves as a showcase for local and regional artists, hosting at least six major exhibits of contemporary art in its Main Gallery each year. Built in 1818 for the exorbitant sum of $40,000, Ware's Folly was an architectural first for Augusta. This grand Federal-style house was built under the strict direction of Nicholas Ware, mayor of Augusta and U.S. Senator. The home's fluted pilasters, three-story elliptical staircase, and elegant bay windows served as tourist attractions then, and still enthrall visitors today.

The Museum of Aviation is now the second largest museum in the United States Air Force, displaying 93 aircraft and hundreds of exhibits. The Eagle building shaped like the U.S. Forces "Stars and Bar" insignia, houses exhibits, aircraft, archives and offices. The Century of Flight Hangar contains an interactive theater and exhibit hall, as well as several restored aircraft. Hangar One features beautifully restored aircraft (including helicopters and trainers), missiles and engines. Also visit the Heritage Building which features "Windows To A Distant Past," Georgia's most unique sight-and-sound Native American history exhibit, exploring the culture of Georgia's first inhabitants, complete with realistic figures, preserved animals and centuries-old artifacts found during archaeological diggings on Robins Air Force Base. Noah's Ark is a 250 acre rehabilitation center for animals. They provide a loving home for abused, unwanted, and orphaned animals. Noah’s Ark is not a zoo or humane society but a place dedicated to the care and treatment of wildlife, domestic livestock, exotic animals and birds. Exotic animals, such as tigers, primates, etc., having no “home” in North America, receive permanent residence at Noah’s Ark. Presently, Noah’s Ark has about 1,000 permanent “residents” . Walk along the 40 acre, wheelchair accessible, Nature Trails, have a picnic in their open grounds or take a self-guided tour to see the exotic animals.

Tour begins at the Martha Berry Museum with a 25-minute film and the permanent exhibit that maps the growth of the Berry Schools into Berry College. The second floor houses the art collection of Miss Berry's sister Eugenia, wife of Prince Enrico of Italy, paintings by Italian and American artists spanning nearly 1,000 year. Guided tours of Oak Hill, Greek revival home of Martha Berry, and three outbuildings are included. Tours of the gardens are self-guided. The estate and gardens were home to Union troops during the Civil War. Also on the grounds is the home of "Aunt Martha" Freeman, a former slave who cared for Berry as a young child and lived with the educator for all her life.

Built in the 1860s, Rose Lawn was bought by Sam Jones, the "Billy Graham" of the late 1800s. His preaching flourished as he traveled the state raising money for the Methodist Orphanage in Decatur. Preaching in Nashville in 1885, he converted Tom Ryman who built the Union Gospel Tabernacle, later known as Ryman Auditorium. Caring little for theological doctrine, Jones emphasized the simplicity of living a good life with a message as simple as "Quit your meanness.

Historic cottage dating c.1840 and birthplace of the great Southern poet, Sidney Lanier. Lanier was a poet, musician, and scholar, nationally known and particularly beloved in the South. He served in the Confederate Army until captured aboard a blockade runner and was confined at Fort Lookout, Maryland.

Formerly a cotton mill gin, this museum is now home to three permanent collections as well as being a new Smithsonian Affiliate, hosting traveling Smithsonian exhibits. Permanent exhibits are "The General", a fully restored Civil War locomotive that was the object of the infamous Andrew's Raid of 1862; the Civil War Era Collection of photographs and artifacts that show the use and importance of railroads; and the Glover Steam Locomotive Collection and Machine Works that played a significant role in industrializing the South after the Civil War.

The jukebox is stocked with oldies and a selection of homespun Waffle House songs.
