Alternate ROOTS
The Mission of Alternate ROOTS is to support the creation and presentation of original art, which is rooted in a particular community of place, tradition or spirit.


Alternative Media Access Center ( AMAC )

AMAC is an initiative of the Board of Regents University System of Georgia with a mission to improve system wide services for students with print-related disabilities. Originally located at the University of Georgia in Athens, AMAC now operates under the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute in Atlanta. AMAC has expanded its services nationwide to include all types of post-secondary institutions and other government agencies.

Atlanta Area School for the Deaf

Center for Leadership in Disability

A directory of accessible cultural facilities by the VSA arts of New England affiliates. This site contains multiple articles on cultural access for people with disabilities and provides a forum to speak out about these issues.



ADAPT
Nationally ADAPT focuses on promoting services in the community instead of warehousing people with disabilities in institutions and nursing homes.

American Association for Persons with Disabilities, AAPD

American Printing House for the Blind
The world's largest nonprofit organization creating educational, workplace and independent living prodcuste and services for people who are visually impaired.



Art Behind Bars
The mission of Art Behind Bars is to give inmates  an opportunity to contribute to society through the donation of artwork to non-profit organizations locally and nationally.



Artist Conference Network
The ACN is a unique coaching community for people doing creative work. The Network is comprised of small groups throughout the US. Members are trained to coach and be coached.

Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury
This is a new 24-hour outreach center to provide information and referrals to military service members, veterans, their families and others with questions about psychological health and traumatic brain injury. Disability Funders Network (DFN) is a national membership and philanthropic advocacy organization that seeks equality and rights for disabled individuals and communities by bridging philanthropic resources, disability and community. DFN envisions an empowered and functioning democracy with full equality under the law, equal access to services, unconditional respect for difference and the meaningful participation of all communities at tables where decisions are made.



Disability Nondiscrimination Law Advisor
This online resource helps employers quickly and simply determine which federal disability nondiscrimination laws apply to their business or organization and their responsibilities under them. It asks users to answer a few relevant questions in order to take into account relevant variables, such as the nature of the organization, the size of staff and whether the business or organization receives federal financial assistance. Based on the responses provided, the adviser then generates a customized list of federal disability nondiscrimination laws that likely apply, along with easy-to-understand information about employers' responsibilities under them.

In September 2007, at the Governor's Conference on Tourism held in Tifton, GA the State rolled out a Creative Economies initiative designed to support artists, craft artisans, authors, entertainers and other creative business owners in branding and marketing their locally made products.



Georgia School for the Deaf
The Georgia School for the Deaf serves students, ages 0-21 from preschool through high school. Multi-handicapped hearing-impaired students are served in a special services program.

Hurricane Katrina Relief
Citizen Action Team in Massachetts created a database that links the needs of people in the Gulf Coast with the resources that people and groups have to offer. Thousands of people are still struggling to rebuild their lives and there are groups still make weekly runs to various centers on the Gulf Coast, delivering much-needed supplies.  The relief data base is engineered so that those with goods and services to donate and those with a need for goods and services can find each other.    www.reliefdatabase.org

The Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities was established to ensure that the Federal government appropriately supports safety and security for individuals with disabilities in disaster situations.

Kids Included Together (KIT) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in San Diego, California in 1997.  Their mission is to provide learning opportunities that support recreation, child development and youth enrichment programs to include children with and without disabilities.

Mobile Stage System
This mobile theater system allows blind actors to move on the stage on their own without the assistance of walking sticks, ropes or ramps.


Mopix offers information about Rear Window? Captioning and DVS Theatrical?, developed by The Media Access Group at WGBH, which makes movie theaters accessible to audiences with disabilities. Their site provides information to consumers, industry members and others interested in learning more about motion picture access. National AIDS Education & Services for Minorities
National AIDS Education & Services for Minorities was created in an effort to counteract the ever increasing spread of HIV/AIDS in communities of color.



National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture
A non-profit association composed of diverse member organizations dedicated to encouraging film, video, audio and online/multimedia arts, and to promoting the cultural contributions of individual artists.



National Arts and Disability Center
The NADC is dedicated to promoting the full inclusion of children and adults with disabilities into the visual-, performing-, media-, and literacy-arts communities.



National Council on Disability
The NCD is an independent federal agency making recommendations to the President and Congress, in order to enhance the quality of life for all Americans with disabilities and their families.  Their April 15, 2005 publication, "Saving Lives: Including People with Disabilities in Emergency Planning" is available upon request. A not-for-profit advocacy organization established in 1986 to address and seek solutions to the problems of racism and exclusion in theatre, film and television.

The Open Directory Project is a human-edited directory of the web. This site contains information on accessibility, artists, dance, film, television, music and theatre.



Paralysis Resource Center
The Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) offer resources on spinal cord injury, paralysis and mobility related disabilities. The PRC is a program created by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF) to provide a comprehensive, national source of information for people living with paralysis and their caregivers to promote health, foster involvement in the community and improve quality of life.



Performers with Disabilities
This web site was created to promote the talents of performers with disabilities across the nation, and to foster a positive environment where we can unite to encourage the casting of performers with disabilities in film, TV shows, commercials, and theatre.



The Puffin Foundation supports projects that will advance progressive social change.  Grants of $500-$2,500 are open to all artists residing in the U.S.

Resource
Based in London, Resource was launched in April 2000 as the strategic body working with and for museums, archives and libraries, tapping the potential for collaboration between them. Theatre Communications Group
The subscription service ArtSearch provides national listings at every level of employment in theatres and performing arts centers, summer festivals, schools, dance and opera companies, symphony orchestras, museums, arts councils, and other arts organizations.

Wheelchair Foundation
The Wheelchair Foundation is a nonprofit organization leading an international effort to create awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities, to promote the joy of giving, create global friendship, and to deliver a wheelchair to every child, teen and adult in the world who needs one, but cannot afford one.

WorkingArtist
WorkingArtist is a Windows software application created to help artists manage the business side of art. WorkingArtist catalogs artwork, manages patron contacts, creates art consignment memos and invoices, tracks show entries and projects, creates mail lists, art price lists, price grids, documents, show and slide labels and manages other art marketing tasks. Designed by an artist, WorkingArtist can easily be used by any artist or craftsperson.



World Institute on Disability
The World Institute on Disability (WID) is a nonprofit research, training and public policy center promoting the civil rights and the full societal inclusion of people with disabilities.

Many articles on people and writers with disabilities are available on this site after a short search.



Wynn Newhouse Awards
This Awards program ~ proposed by Wynn Newhouse, who has a disability and a continuing interest in the arts ~ will provide grants to artists of excellence who happen to have disabilities. The Foundation has currently allocated $60,000 per year for these Awards.  These funds will be distributed among winners at the discretion of the five invited judges on the selection committee, composed of persons respected in the arts and disabilities communities.  All eligible artists must be nominated; direct applications will not be considered.



Youth Villages
Youth Villages is committed to helping troubled children and their families find success and provides a comprehensive array of programs and services.  Youth Villages has been a national leader in the adoption and implementation of research-based treatment philosophies in the field of children's mental and behavioral health.
