Technical Services

VSA arts of Georgia is the state's leader in technical services that create accessible arts and cultural venues and inclusive arts and cultural experiences.

StageHands

VSA arts of Georgia contracts with venues to sign interpret performances for patrons who are deaf. StageHands services enable theatre patrons who are deaf or hearing impaired to experience the verbal action of a play through American Sign Language. This is accomplished by providing "shadow" or "side" interpreters who convey the spoken word, allowing patrons to experience both the on-stage action and dialogue simultaneously.

SightLines

VSA arts of Georgia provides a free referral service for venues who wish to provide audio described performances for patrons who are visually impaired. Audio Describers detail the essential, visual aspects of the production in order to help facilitate a more complete experience of the performance for patrons who are visually impaired.

Their site provides information to consumers, industry members and others interested in learning more about motion picture access.

I am hearing impaired and want to see a show that is being interpreted by StageHands. Do I have to pay for this service?

No, but you must purchase your ticket to attend the performance. The presenting venue is responsible for paying for the cost of the sign interpretation.

I am visually impaired and want to see a show that is being audio described. Do I have to pay for this service?

No, but you must purchase your ticket from the theatre company presenting the production in order to attend the Audio Described performance.  Check with the specific venue and ask when they provide an audio described performance.

I want to see a show that is not advertised as being audio described or sign interpreted. How can I access these services for a particular performance or event?

You may call the venue directly and specifically request the service you need. Most venues are accommodating to patrons and will provide this service when requested, with sufficient advance notice. If the venue you call does not know where or how to obtain audio description and sign interpreting services, please refer the venue administration to VSA arts of Georgia at 404.221.1270, ext. 202.
